Therapeutical Class:Penicillinase-resistant penicillins, inhibit cell wall synthesis by inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis

Indication:Penicillinase-producing Staphylococci, less active than penicillin against other G(+) aerobes, not for Enterococcus and MRSA.

Administraton:IV or IM.

 Adults: 250 mg-2 g q4-6h.

MSSA infection including osteomyelitis, pneumonia, toxic shock syndrome, brain abscess: 2 g q4h.

Endocarditis: 2g q4h with gentamicin.

Mild-to-moderate infection: 250-500 mg q4-6h.

Severe infection: 1-2 g q4-6h.

Prosthetic joint infection: 2 g q4h with rifampin.

Children : 100-200 mg/kg/day in 4 divided doses. Max: 12 g/day.

Adverse Effect:Nausea, diarrhea, skin rash, neutropenia, transient hematuria (infants), nephropathy, elevated AST.
